Tutoring Services by Alyssa
I have 20+ years teaching & tutoring experience.
I have a Master's degree in Special Education and hold a valid teaching credentialed in the state of California.
I am a K-8 full time special education teacher Resource Specialist for a San Francisco East Bay area public charter school. I have experience with children in general education as well as with kids on the spectrum, students with learning disabilities and students with ADHD, dyslexia, dyscalculia or dysgraphia.
I keep lessons fun and engaging!
I'm available for in person tutoring or for virtual tutoring for summer 2024!
I specialize in the following areas:
Math computation and math word problems - I can assist your child in gaining strategies to break apart a word problem to identify which operation is needed to solve the problem; I can assist with memorization of math addition or multiplication facts presented visually through stories and pictures. All K-6 Math including Common Core.
Reading and decoding, I am proficient with multisensory approaches to reading that are helpful for students with dyslexia and other reading challenges. I use the Wilson Reading System and the Lindamood-Bell LIPS program* which are based on the Orton-Gillingham methods of multisensory reading instruction designed for students with dyslexia. Colored overlays sometimes help students with decoding issues. (*I have the Lindamood-Bell LIPS program - Disclosure: I have limited training on it).
Reading comprehension Main idea, facts and details, making inferences, drawing conclusions, compare/contrast, making predictions, cause/effect, etc. I have training with the Lindamood-Bell Visualizing and Verbalizing approach.
Increase reading fluency speed via the Read Naturally leveled readers program.

For handwriting, I can assist your child by recommending an ergonomic pencil and I use the Handwriting Without Tears curriculum.
